Dr. Steven R. Goldstein is a top Gynecologist in Manhattan, a Certified Menopause Practitioner, North American Medical Society and a Past President of the North American Menopause Society. He is an expert on Female Hormone Replacement Therapy and co-author of the book “The Estrogen Alternative”. Women come into his office who are clearly menopausal, clearly making no estrogen. They are eating healthy, exercising and doing all the right things and feel great. However well they are doing, estrogen replacement will benefit their overall health, and one of the areas it will benefit is the brain. From forgetfulness to Alzheimer’s where does Estrogen matter? Estrogen has been linked to reducing mild symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease by helping to support the production of acetylcholine, a chemical that helps transmit nerve signals across synapses in the brain. Estrogen creates more connections among nerve cells, and it helps information travel more easily along those connections. Less estrogen, accordingly, means a harder time remembering and learning new things. If you are already experiencing the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, foggy memory, vaginal dryness and so on and are interested in learning how Female Hormone Replacement Therapy can help you stave off Alzheimer’s disease later on in life then arrange for a consultation with Dr Goldstein by contacting his office in New York City or visiting www.goldsteinmd.com. When Dr Goldstein prescribes Female Hormone Replacement Therapy, it’s after a long discussion in which he explains everything and helps the patient weigh her risks and benefits. HRT must be tailored to meet the needs and symptoms of each woman with her family history in mind as well. Dr Goldstein believes it is important that a woman leaves his office not just with a prescription, but with the answers to her questions and a treatment designed specifically for her. Dr. Goldstein is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine, Director of Gynecologic Ultrasound at NYU Langone Medical Center and the author of over seven books on Gynecology. He is regarded as one of the best Gynecologists in the US.

The least serious treatment for endometriosis is actually suppressing the period with low dose birth control pills. The treatment beyond that was a monthly injection of a drug called Lupron. This creates a pseudo menopause and stops all bleeding (thus, these endometriotic glands that can bleed internally will no longer do so). The most common side effect of Lupron is actually feeling better, although some patients report some hot flashes because of the pseudo menopause and this can be treated with very low doses of estrogen called “add back therapy.” There are newer oral medications called GNRH antagonists, one of which, called Elagolix, was recently approved for treating endometriosis. Dr. Goldstein, an Endometriosis Specialist in NYC, has been an advisor and key opinion leader for a company that makes Elagolix as well as others that have similar products in clinical trials.
